Requisition Summary

Provides the leadership for the Machining tool repair and replacement team at the PACCAR Engine Company, Columbus.

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Directs team members of a large manufacturing area to attain the maximum product quality and customer satisfaction within the machining tooling department.
  • Responsible for meeting daily production goals, including safety, quality, scrap, labor efficiency, cutting tool cpu, and housekeeping.
  • Oversight and reporting on budget for all tooling within the machining dept (to include weekly reports and monthly presentations to the Controller and Plant Manager).
  • Serves as main point of contact (POC) with tooling vendors and ensure all contractual obligations are fulfilled (to include monthly meetings for metrics/project updates).
  • Oversees and conducts tooling trials for improvements such as cycle time savings, tooling cost reductions and tooling life extensions.
  • Supports the training, motivation and safety of team members and representatives.
  • Distributes work assignments to team members/representatives in accordance with the production objective across all shifts.
  • Initiates personnel actions including performance evaluations, promotions, transfers, disciplinary measures, etc., in accordance with PEC values, guidelines, and procedures. 
  • Participates in process improvement efforts such as: PPS which includes 5S, effective corrective actions for repetitive quality issues, PQI initiatives, scrap reduction teams, Kaizen events, and outsourcing opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain budgets for cutting tools based off of plant and production goals.
  • Manage in-house suppliers for cutting tool inventory levels and delivery based off of forecast.
  • Engages associates in goals, continuous improvements, projects, etc.
  • Performs other duties as required by business conditions.

Qualifications & Skills

  • B.S. degree required.
  • Strong working knowledge of production machining operations.
  • Experience in leading the setup of new machining processes.
  • Experience in tooling applications development and troubleshooting.
  • Project Management experience.
  • Proven problem-solving skills. Excellent technical, verbal, and written skills.
  • Proven ability to work in a self-directed environment.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt trained preferred.
  • Flexibility to work any shift.
  • Must demonstrate leadership ability and possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess problem solving skills with the ability to function equally well as a team leader.
  • Long-term leadership goals.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; SAP experience a plus.
