Position Summary

Overview

Portland Community College’s Veterinary Technology (VT) program is a regional leader in educating the next generation of Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVT). We are currently looking for a faculty member who has excellent knowledge and experience, can balance academic rigor with practical application, and is passionate about teaching/training learners from diverse backgrounds.

The VT Program, located at the college’s Rock Creek campus, offers a 2-year associate’s degree that provides face-to-face didactic courses, hands-on skills labs, and clinical rotations to prepare students for the national certifying exam (VTNE) and a career as a veterinary technician. Position Success Criteria

In addition to the minimum instructor qualifications, we are seeking candidates that meet the following success criteria.

• Demonstrated experience successfully adapting practices (in teaching, training or communicating) to include a wide range of cultural knowledge, experiences, and perspectives.
• Management, leadership, or supervisory experience in a clinical and/or educational environment.
• Experience with program development and curriculum revisions in an academic setting, or successful implementation of changes in a clinical setting.
• Proficiency in Google applications including Google Docs, Sheets, Calendar, and email as well as proficiency with veterinary medical records software.
• Experience with diagnosing and treating small and/or large animals (as appropriate for the individual’s degree and license).

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

• Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree or the equivalent in Veterinary Technology from and AVMA accredited intuition and
  • 5 years experience working in a veterinary hospital, clinic, research facility, or the equivalent; large animal experience preferable and
  • State of Oregon Certification as a licensed Veterinary Technician (CVT), or license-eligible with license acquired prior to initial teaching assignment.

OR

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree plus veterinary licensure in the State of Oregon by the Oregon Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners, or license-eligible with license acquired prior to initial teaching assignment.

Starting Salary ExpectationsInitial Salary Placement will be between Step 1 ($73,911) and Step 3 ($78,408) based on related experience, per PCC’s collective bargaining agreement. Higher salary placement may be available based on qualifications, experience and internal equity.

PCC currently funds the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS/OPSRP) pension and contributes an additional 6% into the employee’s Individual Account Program under PERS/OPSRP. A portion of the 6% will be diverted to The Employee Pension Stability Account as mandated by Senate Bill 1049. PCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.

Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for courses offered at PCC for yourself, domestic partner, and dependent children under 24 years of age; plus partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions.

• Please note: Temporary Full-Time Faculty are not eligible for Personal Leave Days, Life Insurance, Long-term Disability, or AD&D Insurance.

Paid Leave:

1 day of sick leave for every 18 days worked (~10 per year)

21 hours of additional personal leave per year

4 paid holidays (which occur during the term you are teaching)

Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials at a regionally accredited US institution or a foreign institution having the equivalent of regional accreditation.

Instructors with credentials from other countries will have their transcripts evaluated by agencies that have good standing with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services to establish fulfillment of this standard.
